Bengaluru, October 6, 2025:

In a landmark achievement for India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector, Ola Electric Mobility Limited, the country’s largest pure-play EV manufacturer, has become India’s first automotive OEM to receive government certification for its in-house developed ferrite motor — a rare-earth-free powertrain technology that promises to revolutionize the EV supply chain.
The certification was awarded by the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC), Tamil Nadu, following a comprehensive series of performance verifications and mandatory motor power tests conducted under AIS 041 standards notified by the Ministry of Road Transport, Government of India.
According to the test results, Ola Electric’s ferrite motor demonstrated performance metrics on par with rare-earth permanent magnet motors, delivering equivalent net power for both the 7 kW and 11 kW variants.
This breakthrough aligns with Ola Electric’s vision of technological self-reliance and sustainable innovation, first revealed at its annual ‘Sankalp 2025’ event in August this year. The company stated that the in-house designed ferrite motor matches rare-earth motors in efficiency, durability, and performance, while significantly reducing costs and eliminating supply chain vulnerabilities associated with rare-earth material dependence.
“This milestone de-risks supply chain instability by eliminating reliance on rare-earth elements,” Ola Electric said in its announcement. “Our in-house developed ferrite motor successfully delivers the same performance as motors with rare-earth magnets.”
With the certification now secured, Ola Electric plans to integrate the ferrite motor across its product lineup, a move expected to enhance performance, affordability, and sustainability for millions of Indian EV users.
This development underscores Ola Electric’s position at the forefront of India’s EV revolution — not only as a manufacturer but as a vertically integrated technology innovator.
The company’s Ola Future Factory in Tamil Nadu serves as the country’s largest EV manufacturing hub, producing electric vehicles and critical components under one roof. Supporting this is the Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) in Bengaluru, which leads R&D efforts in advanced cell and battery technology. Ola Electric’s global R&D footprint spans India, the UK, and the US, with a strong focus on core EV components and next-generation propulsion systems.
Ola Electric has also built a direct-to-customer retail network of over 4,000 stores across India, making it the largest company-owned network of automotive experience centres in the nation — an essential pillar of its strategy to make EV adoption seamless and accessible.
